ESE alumna selected for ‘Top 50’ list of women scholars

Dr. Audrey de Nazelle
Audrey de Nazelle, PhD, alumna of the UNC Gillings School’s Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, is one of 50 diverse and influential women scholars honored by SuperScholar, an organization that aims to help match prospective students with degree programs.
The organization established its “50 Most Influential Female Scholars” list to “underscore the best and brightest in the academy” and show students ways to excel in their own courses of study.
de Nazelle is a lecturer in air pollution management at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College in London, where she is an expert in risk assessment and exposure science. Her research, at the intersection of environmental sciences, health behavior, transportation and urban planning, aims to guide decision makers toward built environments and policies that promote health.
de Nazelle earned a Master of Science (2003) and Doctor of Philosophy (2007) at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, where she still collaborates at the UNC Bayesian Maximum Entropy (BME) Lab for Space/Time Geostatistics in Exposure, Disease and Risk Mapping, led by Marc Serre, PhD, associate professor of environmental sciences and engineering at the Gillings School. She also earned a master’s degree in mathematics from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris.
